Artwork by Billy Bishop will be featured in the Sveum Gallery. Bishop is a graduate of Milton College, with a degree in illustration and design. His works of art are represented across the country in homes and businesses. His love of sports, nature, and wildlife dominate many of his created pieces. Artwork by Lynda Wallis will be on display in the Bell Gallery. Wallis’s art has been shaped by a lifetime of creative exploration, from illustrations to mapmaking to fine art and mixed-media. She was accepted into the School of Art Institute of Chicago and her art education blossomed at Viterbo College. “I loved that learning about art, art history, and simply learning were my raison d'etre.” Beloit Art Center will also be having an outdoor artist fair in their alley; the Artist Fair will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. It will feature 16 local artist vendors with art for sales in the Alley on the east side of the building. To end the evening on a festive note, the Beloit Art Center will be hosting a party in their alley featuring the music of Nick and Friends as well as a food truck and beer and wine for purchase. Enjoy the music while you stroll through the artist booths. The band will be playing from 7 to 9 p.m. This is a free event, and all are welcome! The Wright Museum of Art on the Beloit College campus will host the 68th Annual Beloit and Vicinity Art Exhibit. The gallery opening will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with awards announced at 5 p.m. This juried art show features 24 pieces from over 163 submissions. Beloit College’s Gallery ABBA will feature the photography exhibit, “Expressions” from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Observe life through the lens of Beloit College students as they explore relationships and everyday experiences. Figure Drawing Open Studio, hosted by Cheria Gillespie and Abigail Pixler, will be held Monday, June 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. There is no other subject quite as fascinating, important, or timeless to the artist as the human body. If you have never drawn from a live model before, this is your chance. 21+ to attend and pre-registration is required. Cost to participate is $25 and includes wine and charcuterie. You will need to bring your own supplies. Acrylic Painting 101 will be held Tuesdays June 23 and June 30 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Week One, everyone will paint the same image with Lynette discussing supplies, explaining color mixing, and brush care and use. Week Two students will work on their own designs. All supplies will be provided by the instructor and the cost to participate is $85. The Beloit Art Center presents Midwest Darkness II: Otherworldly, an exhibition in the Sveum and Bell Galleries featuring work by 22 artists from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, New Jersey, Georgia, and Texas. The exhibition highlights “Dark Art,” a genre encompassing imaginative works with darker themes, including imagery such as otherworldly beings, surreal portraiture, and bio-organic forms. A First Friday Gallery Reception will be held on May 1 from 5 to 8 p.m., and the exhibition will remain on view through May 28, 2026. In addition, new work by artist Kim Eaton is now on view at Bagels and More and will remain on display through June.
Beginner Acrylic Painting 101 Class will be held on Saturdays, May 2 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. During week one, students will paint the same image while learning about supplies, color mixing, brush care, brush use, and design tips. In the second week, after a short demo, students will work on their own design or paint the demo image. Join us for this lighthearted and fun learning experience. A First Friday Gallery Reception will be held on April 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. Students, parents, teachers, and administrators, as well as the public are encouraged to attend to see the collective talent of the young artists in Beloit. Participating schools are Beloit Turner, Beloit Memorial, and The Lincoln Academy. The exhibit highlights artwork ranging from painting, digital art, mixed media, pottery, sculpture, and stained glass. Several pieces will be selected to represent Beloit in the Association of Wisconsin Artists (AWA) Statewide Teen WRAP program. The work chosen will be exhibited and published at the Center for the Visual Arts in Wausau in September this year. A gallery talk featuring the artists will be held at 6 pm. Both exhibits will be open through the end of the month. Daley Murphy Wisch and Associates is the proud sponsor of both the Sveum and the Bell Gallery artists. In the Sveum Gallery, artwork by Kristine Moser. After dabbling with paint, pastels, collages, photography, and clay, it is color and textiles that Kristine is most passionate about. She creates works people want to touch. Fiber gives her designs more warmth and dimension and the next design always asks for more. “My creative essence was only defined through change, the death of loved ones, and moving too many times. It is only through these changes one starts to see what is left of the original self.” In the Bell Gallery, artwork by Tara Glenny will be featured. Most inspired by nostalgic objects, Tara’s work is created primarily from life with subjects under natural light. Some of his most recent pieces reflect his study of such artistic greats as Rembrandt and Vermeer. “Starting in my grade school days, I found myself sitting in a slow-moving classroom, looking around daydreaming with pencil in hand. That’s where my journey began, drawing doodles and caricatures”. In the Bell Gallery, Gatewood Girls will be featured. Gatewood Girls is a collaborative body of work by Charley and Cassie, whose creative roots trace back to growing up one house apart on Gatewood Drive in Lowell, Indiana. Charley is a photographer and lifelong maker, known for diving deeply into her creative obsessions and working across mediums with curiosity and intuition. juried photography contest. 110 pieces will be displayed in the main exhibit. 24 will be displayed in the newly formed student division, with art from The Lincoln Academy, Hononegah High School, and Beloit Memorial High School. On Friday, March 6, the Center will host a First Friday Gallery Reception from 5- 7pm, with an awards ceremony beginning at 6pm. This month’s exhibit is sponsored by Nowlan Personal Injury Law. Amateur photographers from the region submitted images to be reviewed by a group of three jurors. Each individual reviews the digital entries and gives them a score based on composition, creativity and subject matter, and technical merit. The three scores are then tallied, determining the images that are accepted into the exhibit. The final in-person juror critique occurs after the images are delivered to the gallery. The results are kept under wraps until the night of the reception, at which time the top ten awards are presented, with the first-place award winner receiving $150, second place $100 and third place $50. The top three awards for the student division are $50 for first-place, $25 for second-place, and $10 for third-place. A theme for next year’s exhibit will also be announced. Dot Mandala Beginner Painting Class: practicing mindfulness through meditative art. Mandalas have been used in personal healing practices for centuries. They are said to be calming and can help clear mental clutter, allowing you to focus on the present moment and be more mindful. This can help in reducing stress, relieving anxiety and improving concentration. Each student will create a mandala on a stone or mini canvas.
