Beloit Art Center hosts annual juried photography show - opens this Friday, 5 p.m.
More than 100 images will be exhibited during the month of March at the Beloit Art Center's annual juried photo contest. Photographers from the stateline area will show their work beginning Friday, March 6 at the center, 520 E. Grand Ave., Beloit. An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m., with a gallery talk, juror awards and a people's choice award to be announced at 6 p.m. First place is $150, second place is $100 and third place is $50. “The annual juried photography show is an opportunity for photographers to showcase their art and ability,” said Jerry Sveum, Beloit Art Center Board of Directors President. For members of the community, “they get to see an enjoyable show,” Sveum said. While most of the entries are from the Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois area, the contest popularity is growing. This year, the farthest entry was from Colorado. The photos are judged by three jurors. Each image is analyzed individually by each judge, then tallied together to determine the top choices. The final critique occurs after the images are delivered to the gallery, then kept top secret until the night of the gallery opening. The exhibit will be up through the month of March. The Beloit Art Center is open to the public Monday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday - Friday 10a.m. - 5p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. |
