Twenty-nine photographers from the stateline area will be vying for awards at the annual Juried Photography Show held by the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator in March. This year’s theme , “Every Picture Tells a Story”, has garnered a wide range of subjects and locations for photos. Winners will be announced March 4th during the opening night reception held from 5 to 8 pm. The event is open to the public at no charge and gives everyone a chance to meet the photographers and learn what inspired them. The photography show will continue through March 23rd.

January 8th the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator will host sculptor Salem Barker and contemporary artist Roni Golan. South Beloit’s Salem Barker has a background in mechanical and machinist trades that he used to develop his artists skills without a formal education or training in art. Beginning simply as an outlet for creativity, sculpting led to the joy of bringing his imagination into a tangible form. Often working in wood, the artistic twists and turns of his sculpture captivates his audience.
Roni Golan is a Rockford contemporary artist and gallery owner. He often creates paintings at events such as weddings, parties and other gatherings that reflect the tone of the occasion. As an artist, Golan works with photography, metal, paint and furniture. His bold use of color with contemporary themes excite the senses.
From 5 to 8 pm, the January 8th event is free and open to the public. Both artists will be on hand to meet the public and discuss their art. The show will continue through January 28th. The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is proud to present two accomplished watercolor artists for their December gallery show. Both Deb Shimondle and Pat Roedel are natives of Wisconsin and trained artists matriculating in the UW system. The show opens December 4th with an Artists Reception from 5 pm to 8 pm. The reception is free and gives the public a chance to meet the artists and learn more about their art.
Deb Shimondle is a Realistic painter who shares her own reality through her art. Inspiration can happen at any time and anywhere; she is not limited to one subject matter. Challenge is the key. How can one paint metal, reflections in water or crystal? Her work can be defined as a balance between mastering a technique, expressing an opinion and projecting an emotional reaction. An award winning artist, Shimondle divides her time between Beloit and Florida.
Her work has been displayed in both locations and can be found in both private and public collections.
Pat Roedel is a well known Wisconsin watercolor artist from Madison. Working in watercolor has been a recent love for her. The freshness of the color, the unpredictability of the pigment and the quickness of this painting style helps her create an exciting style of expression. Roedel has won several awards for her art as well as two awards at the Edge of the Rock Plein Air Events in Beloit, Wisconsin.
This year, the opening night of the Gallery show coincides with downtown Beloit’s Holidazzle event. To celebrate Holidazzle, the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator will be offering special complimentary snacks plus several additional artists will be offering their art for sale. The gallery show will continue through December. The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is open Monday from 10 am to 2 pm; Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 5:30 and Saturday from 10 to 3.

The art is the work of 29 artists from Illinois and Wisconsin. The subject was open to the interpretation and creativity of the artist. The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is pleased to present the works of Thomas Buchs. A graphic illustrator for the past 42 years, Buchs’ art holds a touch of nostalgia. His oil paintings express a moment of life forever held on a canvas. Buchs especially enjoys working outdoors where he captures the light and atmosphere of a scene in a few hours of painting. Other times, he enjoys creating his art in his studio. A Wisconsin artist, Buchs has won numerous awards for his works and is displayed in several Wisconsin galleries.
The public is invited to attend an artist’s reception Friday, October 2nd from 5 to 8:00 pm. The event is free and Mr. Buchs will be available to meet the public. The show will continue through October and is open free of charge Monday from 10 to 2; Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 5:30 and Saturday from 10 to 3.

Award Winning Photographer Featured in September!
The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is pleased to announce Cindy Vondran, an international award winning photographer, as its featured artist for September. Her show “Visions through the Seasons” features photographs capturing the changes that take place in nature throughout the year. Vondran is a native of northern Illinois who describes her photography as capturing the beauty of nature’s nuances hidden beneath the obvious. With the world through her viewfinder, Vondran explores contrasting patterns of color, shapes and textures as she composes her vision into a rectangular scene.
The public is invited to attend an artist’s reception Friday, September 4th from 5 to 8:00 pm. Ms. Vondran will be available to meet the public. The show will continue through September and is open free of charge Monday from 10 to 2; Tuesday through Friday form 10 to 5:30 and Saturday from 10 to 3. The gallery is open free of charge.

The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is proud to present two plein air artists for their August show.
Kyle Martin is well known around Beloit for his plein air paintings many of which have won awards. From Reedsburg, Kyle approaches his work by observing and painting the effect of light falling on the landscape. His work is created outdoors taking direct inspiration from the subject. By using color to show atmosphere he will often return to the same location to capture different moods of the same scene. His luminous paintings are created with active brushwork and broken color. Matt Holt is a self-employed medical illustrator whose passion is traditional art. Representational art is where his roots lie and it is within this broad spectrum for which he feels he can explore endlessly with his creative process. Often described as a tonalist, Holt utilizes a full palette of colors, mixing and searching for a harmony of gray tones. He feels that within the color gray lies the poetry and magic in a piece. Scenes of non-grandeur are what Holt takes joy in recreating, transforming the ordinary in to something extraordinary. Click here for Matt's website.

Without a doubt, Owen Verne Shaffer, 87, is Wisconsin’s most prolific public artist. His sculptures grace homes, parks, museums, schools, libraries, churches and more not only in Wisconsin, but in several states and other countries.
Although he presently resides in his hometown of Princeton, Ill., he lived in southern Wisconsin for 50 years, forging longtime relationships with Beloit College and the surrounding community. Shaffer graduated from Beloit in 1950 and went on to earn a master’s degree in art at Michigan State University. He also taught at Olivet College and worked at a lithographic firm. He returned to Beloit College in 1955 and worked as an instructor and director of the Wright Museum of Art.
A statewide celebration of Shaffer's artwork will begin with an opening reception at the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator. All of the work found in this exhibit is from privately-owned collections. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to view these pieces!
Additional venues for Shaffer's work during the month of July include Beloit College Wright Museum of Art, the Janesville Art League Woman’s Gallery and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) which was founded in 1940, provides statewide art workshops and exhibits for nonprofessional artists. This program was established to encourage Wisconsin citizens with a serious interest in Art. People who make art purely for the love of it, rather than for fame and fortune. The purpose of WRAP is to encourage artists to develop their abilities.
Please join us to view a wonderful display of over 25 artists during this Wisconsin Regional Art Program event. The work of these artists are varied in medium, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, photography,, and sculpture. One third of the artists will have work selected to be exhibited in Madison, Wisconsin at the state WRAP event in August and September.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Refreshments and appetizers will be served.
