The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is pleased to announce Larry Schumacher as their featured artist for January 2017. Schumacher brings an exciting energy to the gallery with his expressive pieces of art. Almost never using a brush, Schumacher’s tools are as unique as the paintings he creates. Using fly swatters, drinking straws and even rubber chickens, his works are an explosion of color and texture. Not only visual, Schumacher encourages his viewers to explore his work through touch.

Sterett is an independent artist whose work features a wide range of mediums from pen and ink to stained glass to large wood sculptures. Explaining that his work is “a compulsively detailed expression of matters I feel strongly about.” He goes on to say his work “is inspired by personal experiences without regard to a narrow art philosophy so as to give the content its full expression.”

The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator will host a juried art show during November. Over 45 paintings and ceramic pieces depicting the subject of “Weather“ will be on display. The art is the work of 19 artists from Illinois and Wisconsin. The subject was open to the interpretation and creativity of the artist.

The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is proud to present 14 artists from the Mount Horeb Area Arts Association. This group of artists represents a range of styles and mediums from photography to pastels, gourd sculptures to ceramics, paintings to glass fired tiles and much more. Some members of the group have achieved International acclaim, many have professional training and all are award winning. This will be an exciting show with a wide variety of art pieces.
The show opens on Friday October 7th with an open house from 5 to 8 pm to which the public is invited. Many of the artists will be on hand to discuss their work. A well-known watercolor painter, for Mathews’ painting is a very important part of her life and has brought her numerous awards and opportunities. Mainly self-taught, she has taken many workshops and after years of painting, now teaches. As she relates, “Winning awards for your painting efforts are gratifying, but nothing compares to watching a student realize that they have the ability to be creative and that they can paint. We are all on our own art journey, for me, teaching painting has been a highlight in my art career.” Her paintings cover a range of subjects and techniques and we are happy to be able to showcase her work.

With his artwork in collections around the world, Wuthrich’s artistic journey began at age 8 when he received his first set of oil paints. Now seventy-three years later, Wuthrrich has gathered together over 50 paintings for this show: describing them as “something old, something new, nothing borrowed and some blue.” His work features nature, references to mythology and literature as well as flights of imagination. “I let my mind take me where it wants to go so each piece is a journey into the unknown.“ Besides a variety of paintings, Wuthrich also will be displaying his carvings and handmade walking sticks.

Due to the July 4th holiday falling as it does, this exhibit will open the second Friday of July (July 8th). The featured artist, Carol Spitznagel was born in Beloit and has lived most of her life in Beloit. As a senior at Beloit Memorial High School, she received a scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design. From there, she worked in marketing and advertising positions where her art training was put to good use. Today, Spitznagel uses her artistic talents to create paintings that show a joy of life. She is especially fond of portraying people in different aspects of their lives.

Over 20 Local Artists to Exhibit
The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator will host over 20 local artists who will compete in a Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) exhibit this month. WRAP exhibits began in 1940 to encourage the creative growth of non-professional artists. Participants may exhibit two pieces of art in the show. The art will be judged and meritorious pieces will be selected to advance to the annual State Art Exhibition held in September. Along with the WRAP show, a special “Tribute to Jody Covington” show will feature several pieces of her work on loan for the month of June. Covington was a very talented artist who died last September.
The exhibition opens Friday June 3rd with a free artists reception from 5 to 8 pm where the public can meet the artists. The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is located in downtown Beloit at 520 E. Grand Avenue. The exhibit will continue from June 3rd through June 25th and is open Monday from 10 to 2; Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 5:30 and Saturday from 10 to 3.

The Beloit Fine Arts incubator will host Norm Starks during May. Starks is a photorealistic acrylic artist who lives in Beloit. Starks is known for his detailed realistic style of painting, and has been told that many of his paintings are as exact as photographs. He especially loves painting rural scenes and pet portraits. “My goal with my art is to reproduce in a painting what has already been created by the Creator. Capturing the essence of what we observe in our world is my desire. Because of my rural heritage, I am especially attracted to farm and landscape scenes. I also enjoy painting animals, attempting to capture their character by attention to detail.”
Starks has been involved in the Wisconsin Regional Artists Program for the last 7 years, and has been awarded State Awards for 6 of those years. His paintings have been sold to buyers all over the United States and as far away as Australia. He has studied under local artist Judy Pulaski, and currently participates in an open studio program at the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator under the tutorage of Dan Wuthrich of Roscoe, IL, who is known world-wide for his fine art and who has art in galleries and museums all over the world. “I make no claims to be a professional artist,” Starks said. “I took up painting as a hobby after I retired in 2003 and have found it to be a relaxing and fulfilling activity. I have found some demand for my work through online sales as well as local shows and exhibits. I am delighted that other people have come to recognize my hobby as having some value to them as well to me.”
