The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator is pleased to announce well known local artist Dan Wuthrich as their featured artist for July. The show will run from July 3rd throughout the month. The focus of the exhibit is “Something Old, Something New, Nothing Borrowed and Something Blue” Living much of his 79 years in the stateline area, Wuthrich’s art has found an international following with over 1000 paintings sold from a Chicago gallery plus countless others sold from other venues. A very prolific artist, Wuthrich has an intense, sensitive almost metaphysical personality that is reflected in his art. Working predominantly in acrylic, his art is highly imaginative and is described as a sensitive journey down seldom traveled roads of thought. Highly detailed, Wuthrich sees the nuances we often overlook in our too harried lives. Wuthrich describes his work as “My subject matter runs the gamut from realism to what has been called visionary realism. I don’t limit my subject matter, but rather, I allow it to take me where it wants to go.”
Due to the 4th of July falling on the first Friday of July, the Artist’s Reception will be held on the second Friday, July 11th, from 5 pm to 8 pm with the artist on hand to answer questions about what inspires his art. The event is open to the public at no charge.

The Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) which was founded in 1940, provides statewide art workshops and exhibits for nonprofessional artists. This program was established to encourage Wisconsin citizens with a serious interest in Art. People who make art purely for the love of it, rather than for fame and fortune. The purpose of WRAP is to encourage artists to develop their abilities.
Please join us to view a wonderful display of over 35 artists during this Wisconsin Regional Art Program event.
The work of these artists are varied in medium, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, photography, stained glass, and sculpture. One third of the artists will have work selected to be exhibited in Wausau, Wisconsin at the state WRAP event in August and September.
Refreshments and appetizers will be served.

Shelley Smith knew her colors before she could talk and has been creating art her whole life. Shelley is a unique character, with an inexplicable fascination with oil painting. However, each time she expressed interest in trying it, her most influential mentor discouraged her, but Shelley’s curiosity never waned.
For most of her life, Shelley followed the “practical” route. After earning a BA in Economics and an MBA, she took up oil painting in her spare time, and spent 20+ years working in Corporate America. However, even with accomplishments most would deem “successful” – a great education, a good job and a salary – she still felt as though she was neglecting some of the work she was truly meant to do.
In 2013, Shelley finally realized “squeezing it in” wasn’t enough, and has since picked up the painting pace and increased focus on her aptly named art business, Spunky Bohemian. In addition to creating a number of new paintings specifically for “Sights Often Seen, Rarely Noticed,” Shelley has gathered some of her best current and vintage pieces as well, making this her most comprehensive show to date.
The show’s title is particularly appropriate for her work as Shelley indicates:
"I love capturing views from our everyday world – the same places people see on a daily basis, but they don’t truly see.”
People have told her that her subjects are often quirky – “Shelley, who would ever see a bait shop as a work of art?” It is this unusual knack for selecting images people see everyday, and capturing them in a work of art that has caused others to tell Shelley that she has literally changed their perspective. They now see and look at things, like an underpass, that in the past they wouldn’t have even noticed.
Shelley’s paintings of people, places and things are accomplished with solid brush strokes, an infusion of sunlight and shadows, as well as vibrant colors and shapes. Since color has always been important to her, she is meticulous about it, searching for the best complementary color combinations, and sometimes mixing colors for an hour before beginning to paint for the day.
She is attracted to subjects and compositions for their history, irony, isolation and/or beauty, all reminding her of who we are, where we have been and where we may be going.

Susan Swedlund is a stoneware clay artist, who primarily works as a hand builder. She is inspired by nature and how light interacts with the colors, the textures, and the patterns found in God's creation.
Susan studied Art and Theatre at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas and received her bachelor's degree in 1982. She has lived in Wisconsin since 1987. She worked for the school district of Beloit for many years as both a Para-educator and a substitute teacher. Susan was prompted to become a full time artist, in 2011, after the death of her mother. Her mother was one of three girls, and they were known in their small town as "The Potter Sisters." It only seemed fitting for Susan to name her new clay business after her mother. It is only with the support of her wonderful husband, their two sons, and God that this venture came to be possible. Susan also credits the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator, where she currently has her studio, as a major contributor to her success.
Recently Susan was involved in the development of a creative thinking program called the da Vinci Room at Cunningham Elementary. She and her colleagues studied the development of creative thinking in youths and constructed what is now an afterschool program that she coordinates. In this show there will be a small display of a recent project done by some of those in the da Vinci Club.
In this show Susan hopes to display the fun and diverse side of clay. You will see many different construction and glazing techniques.
Susan is offering several classes starting February 2014. Please check out the "Classes" section.

Artist Statement:
I strive to be a Fine Art Photographer. Most of the photographs in this exhibit were taken with film and a large format camera. I like using the large format camera because of the ability that it gives the photographer to control the camera movements and provide high quality image capture. I find the process of discovering a subject then setting up and adjusting the camera to be very relaxing. Capturing the image on film is a secondary benefit. Colors, shapes, patterns, old ruins/structures appeal to me.
I prefer landscape photography being most influenced by Ansel Adams, Elliott Porter, Philip Hyde and Galen Rowell. I work almost exclusively in color. I am drawn not only to the large landscape but also the more intimate and abstract patterns that are found in nature. I enjoy the process and the end result. I hope that you also enjoy them.
Most of the photographs in this exhibit were taken with film. The processed film sent to Bill Northstrom at Laserlight Graphics were it was drum scanned to obtain a high quality digital file. There has been minimal to no digital manipulation. Nothing was removed or added. These files were then used to produce a true photographic print using a Chromira LED digital printer and Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Archival matting and framing was done by Eye Level Framing in Madison, WI. These prints all have the gray Neilson Frames.
There are various other photographic prints available on photographic paper, metal and canvas gallery wraps. Custom prints in different sizes are available. Please contact me through the BFAI.
