Beloit Art Center is pleased to announce the July exhibits which will open with a First Friday Gallery Reception on July 7 from 5-7pm. A gallery talk featuring the artists will be held at 6 pm. Both exhibits will be open through July 27.
In the Sveum Gallery, we welcome CK Chang, M.D. Dr. Chang has been painting for more than thirty years. Growing up in Taiwan he is an enthusiastic nature lover, who is fascinated and awed by nature's beauty. As a realist painter his primary interest is painting landscapes. Using photos from trips as a reference he usually uses red or magenta as under-painting and paints a quick rough sketch, and then adds many layers of oil colors for the finished work. As Dr. Cahng explains, “I use a lot of paint to create texture. Often I paint in an Impressionist style, using dabs of various colors in loose short strokes, paying special attention to color harmony, creating space and lighting, and paying less attention to the detail forms. I want to express my feelings of the beauty of these places and create the mood of the setting so that viewers can share nature’s beauty at that particular moment and space.”
In the Bell Gallery, we are pleased to feature Tom Lieder. A resident of Janesville, Tom is a retired teacher and coach from the Milton School District. He took up painting after retiring and enjoys art as an outlet to connect with nature and stay busy. Tom is inspired and challenged by the artwork of his grandmother, whose paintings are in his home and many of which were done nearly a century ago!
Calling young artists! Beloit Art Center is offering summer classes for students ages 8 – 18. In July there will be pottery classes for teens and a selection of one-day workshops including papermaking, felting, and creating a recycled art journal. Nancy Mayhew will return again this summer with two mosaic classes for kids. Visit www.beloitartcenter.com/summer-classes-for-students.html for all of the offerings and how to sign up.
Summer classes for adults are also being offered. A new session of Introduction to Digital Photography will begin July 5th. Summer is a great time to enhance your photographic skills and this class will teach you how. Ongoing Qigong classes are happening this summer. Let by Nancy Mayhew, qigong is a Chinese exercise to optimize energy within the body and maintain good health. It is excellent for balance, flexibility, and coordination. Held twice a week, students receive a punch card and can attend when it is best for their schedule. For more about classes please visit the BAC website.
