Spring is here and the Beloit Art Center is pleased to announce a full line-up of classes and workshops for the month of April. For those interested in pottery, the art center has options for you! A 6-week course in hand-building techniques or a six-week course in throwing on the potter’s wheel will be offered. Pottery classes are taught by Rebecca Rehpohl who joins the Art Center with 38 years of experience as a public-school teacher and 22 years as a community education art teacher. All skill levels are welcome, and creativity is encouraged. Clay and glaze will be provided. In Handbuilding Techniques, students will explore the world of hand-building with clay. Fundamental construction strategies will be covered. The handbuilding course will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm beginning on April 13. In Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel, students will begin to explore the world of throwing clay. Starting with cups and goblets, students will develop the skills to throw bowls. The throwing course will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm beginning on April 11. The cost for either course is $155.00. In both classes, students will learn glazing methods needed to finish their unique creations, and returning or experienced students will be guided into advanced projects when ready after a review of fundamental strategies.
Instructor Anna Banwell will be hosting two unique workshops in April. On April 15, she is offering a Planted Succulent Class. Attendees will create a medium-sized succulent plant arrangement in a handmade ceramic planter created by the instructor. Everything is included, so just come and join the fun. The class will be from noon until 2:00 and the cost is $60.00. Beginning April 29, Anna is hosting a 3-week Altered Book Workshop. Students will learn how to change a gently used book into an altered book art journal. The class will be held from noon to 3:00 pm each Saturday. The cost is $120.00 and includes supplies.
