Beloit Art Center Announces March Exhibit

134 pieces of art will be exhibited during the month of March at the Beloit Art Center's 15th annual
juried photography contest. 110 pieces will be displayed in the main exhibit. 24 will be displayed in the
newly formed student division, with art from The Lincoln Academy, Hononegah High School, and Beloit
Memorial High School. On Friday, March 6, the Center will host a First Friday Gallery Reception from 5-
7pm, with an awards ceremony beginning at 6pm. This month’s exhibit is sponsored by Nowlan Personal
Injury Law.  Amateur photographers from the region submitted images to be reviewed by a group of three jurors.
Each individual reviews the digital entries and gives them a score based on composition, creativity and
subject matter, and technical merit. The three scores are then tallied, determining the images that are
accepted into the exhibit. The final in-person juror critique occurs after the images are delivered to the
gallery. The results are kept under wraps until the night of the reception, at which time the top ten awards are
presented, with the first-place award winner receiving $150, second place $100 and third place $50. The top
three awards for the student division are $50 for first-place, $25 for second-place, and $10 for third-place. A
theme for next year’s exhibit will also be announced. The exhibit will be open for viewing from March 6

Dot Mandala Beginner Painting Class: practicing mindfulness through meditative art. Mandalas have
been used in personal healing practices for centuries. They are said to be calming and can help clear mental
clutter, allowing you to focus on the present moment and be more mindful. This can help in reducing stress,
relieving anxiety and improving concentration. Each student will create a mandala on a stone or mini canvas.
March 4 and 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost to participate is $60 per adult age 18 and older.
Figure Drawing Open Studio. Come get settled in alongside other artists as you study and draw the
human form in whatever medium suits you. Hosted by Cheria Gillespie and Abigail Pixler. Monday, March
16, from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost to participate is $25.
Beginner Throwing on the Wheel. Explore the creative possibilities of hand-built ceramics in this
six-week class focused on foundational clay techniques. Students will learn pinch, coil, and slab construction
methods while creating both functional and expressive ceramic pieces. Glazing techniques will be taught to
complete finished works. Tuesdays, March 24 through April 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. Cost to participate is $140.
Handbuilding Pottery Class. Explore the creative possibilities of handbuilt ceramics in this six-week
class focused on foundational clay techniques. Students will learn pinch, coil, and slab construction methods
while creating both functional and expressive ceramic pieces. Glazing techniques will be taught to complete
finished works. Thursdays, March 26 through April 30 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cost to participate is $165.
